It was the best ...We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Avenida Palace. The staff were all fantastic and accommodating. Our room was charming and I enjoyed the age of the building. The breakfast was superb. It was the best breakfast at a hotel that we have ever experienced. The selection was quite good and the fresh fruit and pastries were wonderful. My only complaint about this hotel is that they advertise on their website that the rooms are soundproofed. That was a big deciding factor for me when I booked this hotel. Well, the rooms are NOT soundproofed. Our room was on the 2nd floor and faced the courtyard where you enter the hotel. The bathroom window opens up to the courtyard and all the street noise travels up the alley to your bathroom! We had to close the door to the bathroom each night to diminish the street sounds. In addition, this hotel is built next to the local underground metro line. All day and most of the night you will hear the sound of the trains as they come rumbling into the station. This was slightly less bothersome as you actually “adapt” and get used to the rumbling sound in your sleep. Would I stay at this hotel again?? Probably not …… simply because it is definitely not soundproofed as they advertise. My sleep was disrupted by both the street noise and the trains.Show More

Our room was very small for a Junior Suite, and the beds/pillows were very uncomfortable. The daily breakfast buffet was average and slightly disappointing, with the same main food offerings every day it became boring and bland after day two. We were grateful there is a Starbucks next door as the hotel coffee was horrible. The hotel’s main lounge/bar is a beautiful space that we did not get to enjoy….one afternoon while returning from a long day out, my Wife & I stopped at the bar/lounge area to rest and relax a while before returning to our room. A few moments after sitting down, a very rude waiter approached us and told us we must leave immediately because we had “outside” water bottles with us and this was not allowed (these water bottles were provided by the hotel btw). It was the middle of the day and no other guests were there. We were too tired to argue so we left, very offended by this experience. Hotel management needs to do a better job training bar/lounge staff how to properly treat guests who pay a lot of money to stay there.Show More

You can expect first c...This is our second visit to Hotel Avenida Palace, the last being in 2018. I'm pleased to say nothing much has changed. This hotel was opened in 1892 and fully renovated in 1998. You can expect first class service from check-in to check-out. The lobby bar is elegant and charming with a piano player performing each evening. A perfect spot for a cocktail before heading out for the evening. The sumptuous breakfast buffet in the massive 2nd floor hall is worth the price of admission alone. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the rooms and bathrooms are starting to look a little tired. Also, like many old European hotels a basic room can be on the small side. On another note, we booked the room directly through the hotel website rather than using a booking agency as on their website they tell you that by booking directly you are entitled to a room upgrade if available. But the opposite happened and we ended up with a much smaller room than on our last visit where we booked via Expedia, so I think maybe agencies such as Expedia and Booking.com reserve the better rooms.Show More

The staff is first rate - very helpful and the service is prompt. The Breakfast Room is beautiful and overlooks the Parca dos Restaradores. It is too bad that they only serve one meal in there. The bar was reasonably priced and the service, as usual, was excellent. We had a ‘Junior Suite’ - one bedroom / bathroom with a large bed, and one sitting room with a couch, chair and TV. It looked out on the center area of the hotel - a light well, if you will. We could have our windows open at night and it was quiet. The one issue we had was that the first Junior Suite we were assigned was very noisy and much smaller. It was on the top floor and faced the entrance courtyard. The noise from the very busy boulevard outside echoed in the courtyard. We would not have enjoyed our stay if we had stayed in that room. Fortunately, they were able to move us.Show More
