My first less than positive experience was being told at check-in that they couldn't waive the safe fee when I asked what the extra fees line on my bill was for. Fine, I figured I'd ask again at check out. More on that later. (By the way, I despise safe fees! They are nothing more than an attempt by a hotel to nickel and dime their customers who don't pay attention or don't care about the few extra dollars.)
When I got to my room, which faces south and is on an exterior corridor along with all of the rooms, I entered to find out the air conditioner was off. Now this was a very hot, sunny day, so as you might imagine, the room felt like an oven. Thankfully, the air conditioner worked quickly. But when it's that hot out, I'd expect more from a hotel that gets 4.1 stars on Google.
I will say, my room was fine, the bed was comfortable, the shower was good, etc. These reasons prevent me from lowering my score more.
Fast forward to Monday morning after a two-night stay. I went to the lobby for breakfast at 7:20 AM, and it was locked. So, forget breakfast. I came back around 8 AM to check out. Thankfully, the lobby was open then. But, there was no one behind the counter to discuss the safe fee with, so I had to drop my key off and go. (To make matters worse, I can print receipts off for every other Wyndham hotel I've stayed at this summer. I booked this room through Wyndham's website like the rest, and am unable to print the reservation.)
But, before I left, I needed a small container of ice. I went down the rather dingy corridor the ice machine is located in, pressed the ice button, and it went through all the noises and motions short of providing me with a single cube of ice. No ice. No one at the front desk to discuss that with. Overall, rather frustrating.
There was also a point on Sunday afternoon I was talking on the phone, and noticed someone I'm pretty sure who works at the hotel peer underneath my curtain into my room. I could be wrong and it actually wasn't one of the owners or workers, but it looked like someone I had seen on property working. That was kind of weird, and I would rather not have people looking in my room, whether they work there or not. There was no knock first, just a guy looking into my window. If it wasn't an employee or worker, I realize the hotel doesn't have much control over that, but it was weird nonetheless.
What I have control over, though, is where I stay during future visits. I'd be somewhat hesitant to stay here again. If they refund the safe fee, I would consider. I can deal with many of the other issues, and for the price, it is a decent room. But I have a problem with hotels charging nickel and dime fees above and beyond the number I was given when I made my reservation, and then not having staff on hand at check out to be able to have those fees removed, especially when I ask about it at check in, when it should have been removed immediately.
So, in summary, I'd say it's a decent place with questionable management. I hope they will consider changing their safe fee practices, as that along with having someone at the front desk at check out (and being open for breakfast) would go a long way in earning my business back.Show More
