My top two choices were either the Menger or the Emi...I am heavily into the paranormal and have always wanted to stay in a famous haunted hotel in San Antonio. It was my birthday and Halloween weekend. My top two choices were either the Menger or the Emily Morgan Hotel. Reading up on both, I was sold on “former hospital”, “former morgue”, and “former crematorium”. All those elements added up to a sure bet that I’ll experience something. My husband and I booked a two-night stay beginning Halloween evening. I had requested the 7th floor (one of the most haunted) with an Alamo view. When we arrived, I was told that there weren’t any rooms like that available due to capacity and was given a room on the 10th floor instead. I was pretty disappointed. My husband wasn’t keen about the parking situation. He thought the valet parking was included in the entire price I was quoted upon booking. Upon all the sudden chaos, an employee named Johnny enters and quickly started diffusing the situation. Even though we were placed on an unpopular floor, we were able to still get an Alamo view. Seeing that we were upset, Johnny offered us two free breakfast passes for the next morning and two free drink passes for the bar. He overheard me mentioning about my obsession with all things spooky and invited my husband and I on his hotel tour that evening. He took us to all the popular haunted spots throughout the hotel (including levels 7, 12, 14, and the ground floor which was where the former morgue was located). On each level, he told us what it was formerly used for and about different experiences visitors reported they had. He even mentioned about his own experience that he had one work night in the morgue area. He was very thorough and knowledgeable of the history of the hotel. Another thing we all noticed was the distinct smell of bandaids and antiseptic on the 12th and 14th floors. One was formerly the surgical floor. The smell was only concentrated on those levels and have never disappeared. As an added treat at the end of the tour, he treated us all to a trip to the very top of the building outside. The views were amazing and he even offered to take pics of us with the skyline. We enjoyed every minute of his tour and decided to join him again on his one on Saturday night. He referred to us as his new VIP’s! Another plus to Saturday was that there was an Alamo view room on the 7th floor that came available and they let us effortlessly transfer into that one for that night! Let me just say, they were not kidding when they say the 7th floor is by far the most active. The noises I heard all night scared the living daylights out of me and I was honestly shaking with fear! I got what I asked for and then some. I know this is lengthy and I can’t say enough about how amazing my first time at the Emily Morgan was. Our breakfast buffet was so delicious and so were our drinks at the bar (thank you Monica!). What started as a little disappointment led to one of the BEST experiences I could’ve ever wished for! Thanks to the staff for helping to accommodate us on our stay and a HUGE thanks to Johnny for making my spooky dreams come true! GIVE THAT MAN A BIG RAISE!! We can’t wait to come back soon!Show More

I was travelling on a 14 day holiday with Riviera Travel to the Deep South USA and Texas with tour manager Benita’B’ and our driver Leo who looked after us on this tour, we stayed for two nights at th...I was travelling on a 14 day holiday with Riviera Travel to the Deep South USA and Texas with tour manager Benita’B’ and our driver Leo who looked after us on this tour, we stayed for two nights at the Emily Morgan hotel San Antonio I was given a room on the 14th floor on entering it looked a lovely comfortable room after being in the room for short while the air con started up and sounded like nails rattling in a tin can, then the tv came on and one light flickered, I didn’t think anything of this as I was meeting up in reception so left my room, in the lift I pressed L and it took me to LL, speaking to others I was then told the story of this hotel, it being the third most haunted and floor 7, 9, & 14 and the basement is affected by various activity, I was on my own on the 14th floor and it was decided I move rooms we went to reception they were very understanding and helpful and apologised for putting me on that floor and I was moved to floor 4, this room again was a very comfortable room overlooking the Alamo with everything I needed for my stay hairdryer,toiletries,iron and ironing board,safe,tv,tea and coffee making,fridge,bedside clock,WiFi,and quiet air con, good housekeeping throughout the hotel nice lounge bar area staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was buffet style which was very nice, whilst in San Antonio we had a audio tour of the Alamo and free time to explore,went on the waterfront river cruise and visited the Mexican market. Thank you I enjoyed my stay at your hotel despite it being haunted I was glad the spirits were kind to me, I met up with some wonderful fellow travellers on this trip, being a solo traveller I wanted to share my experience, the hotel is in a excellent location for whatever you want to do around San Antonio would definitely recommend.Show More

But of all that, I called a few days before reservation and explained i wanted to come for my daughter's birthday. She is autistic and homeschooled and she didn't want a party because she knew that no one would show up. So when I explained that to them, johnny and rudy were absolutely amazing in helping me pick out the room that I wanted for her.And when we arrived, andrew and veronica were so so sweet to us!! For my daughter's birthday, they gave us the breakfast for free. And then once we got up to our room, Andrew and Sophia knocked on our door and had brought my daughter a box of goodies like candies and chips and drinks and little snacks. And a robe as a birthday gift. And then we went to go get dinner came back and Rudy had informed my wife that there was a little surprise for our daughter upstairs. So when we got upstairs, there was a small birthday cake with plates and forks and spoons and knives for her and us to enjoy!! Wow!! Who does that?? I am beyond amazed.We all cried.It was absolutely so precious and so sweet and kind that they went out of their way to make my special needs daughter feel loved and wanted on her birthday!! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. It's absolutely beautiful here and the history and the view is amazing. But definitely nowhere near as amazing as Andrew, Rudy, Johnny and Veronica and Sophia and Ray Ray with all of her knowledge of the history!!! The first room I had was on the top (14th) floor- apparently one of the ‘haunted’ floors. The smoke alarm was beeping as I entered the room but as I was going straight out , told reception staff and didn’t give it another thought, especially as the beeping had stopped when I returned later. I was awoken in the middle of the night by noise that sounded as if it was above me, but I eventually remembered in my sleep haze that I was on the top floor. Bit spooky but ok , I eventually went back to sleep. Nothing else unusual happened until the next morning when a plug came out of the socket I was using to charge something. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this of course to do with electricity surges. On returning to my room late on the second evening the smoke alarm was beeping again. This time I changed rooms to 12th floor- also apparently haunted, but had a restful and uneventful nights sleep. The staff st this hotel are very friendly , polite and helpful. The concierge especially so. He helped a party of us buy tickets and arrange transport to a Rodeo about 40 mins away. Reception staff were also very helpful and offered help when I needed to change my room. Great views over the Alamo from one side of the hotel. A good hotel which I’m happy to recommend even if there were one or two spooky things - adds to memories.Show More
