Room run down, fridge sounded like a whining jet all night long, shower took forever to get hot water, paint peeling here and there 4. Called royal service line ahead to get car brought out of valet. Thankfully saw on app car was never moved and went down in person to request. Would’ve missed my ferry for sure if I relied on that. 5. Almost got double charged for room, likely a mistake was made at check in, see 1 above. Overall, not worth the price or the Fairmont name. Definitely buyers beware.Show More

It was the end of a long trip around the USA and Canada and we thought it would be nice to pay that bit extra and have some luxury. Unfortunately the hotel was really quite disappointing, particularly given the price. To start with the positives, it is an excellent location which cannot be faulted and check in was easy and smooth. It is also a pretty hotel with really nice decor. The things that let it down: -The room was tiny! We didn’t have space to even open our suitcase without completely rearranging the furniture, squeezing the chairs down the side of the bed. -The bathroom was tiny and it was really tricky to get in and out of the shower as the door was so close to the toilet. -The shower itself was very weak and took about 5minutes to get warm -Our shower toiletries were empty when we arrived -The wifi was unfortunately terrible -The concierge was very rude when we spoke to him about laundry and sadly made us feel inadequate and like we weren’t ’posh enough’ to be in the hotel -We were told the public bus to Butchart Gardens would take 1hr40mins as an attempt to get us to pay for their private bus. It actually took 50mins and cost $6 (instead of $90 at the hotel) I think overall, it is really expensive for what it is and you can stay in much nicer hotels for a smaller price. It feels like it is too big for them to deliver a premium service to everyone. That said, the location is excellent.Show More

We were on a group tour and this was the last of the Fairmont chain hotels that we stayed in. The building, history and furnishings are stunning, however the rooms we were in were very small. The building, history and furnishings are stunning, however the rooms we were in were very small. The A/C sounds like a freight train, had to put our bag on top of it to calm the noise - and also because there was no where else to put it. Housekeeping only replaced towels the second day, no fresh toiletries. We ate in the Bengal function room with our tour group and found the staff to be quite rude and uninterested, like they couldn't wait to get out of the place. Had a drink in the main bar and also found the service slow and the waitress to be very dismissive. The concierge and doormen were always pleasant to deal with.Show More

Definitely on the small side but beautiful. Nickel plated fixtures. Beds are wonderful. Slept great. We had a city view with two queen size beds. They have antipated everything one might need. Everything is so beautiful - inside and outside, from the bar and restaurants to the grounds outside. Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous flower beds. The other hotels nearby are priced close or the same to the Empress but pale in comparison. If you are going to Victoria, I would highly recommend staying here. I would book again if I were to ever go back!Show More
