The Grayson hotel was well decorated and clean and in a great location. The rooms were larger than what you typically find in NYC with good storage for just me and no awkward tight spaces. The rooms were larger than what you typically find in NYC with good storage for just me and no awkward tight spaces. The bed was super comfy and I slept pretty well most nights. I felt that the ceilings were a bit weird though, it was like the room was unfinished, I guess it was meant to look like that but just seemed odd and not in keeping with the rest of the décor of the hotel. Staff were friendly especially at breakfast and the rooftop bar (albeit we had to wait a little while for drinks and didn't even order cocktails). My one issue were the elevators. They were so slow! 3 of them serviced the floors including the rooftop and most days (whether early in the morning before 8:30am or late at night after midnight) you'd be waiting at least 5 if not 10 minutes for one and you'd be lucky if it wasn't already full! The noise coming from them was also horrendous, my room was directly opposite 2 of them and the screeching noise at night and in the morning was so irritating. I also found that the amenities in the room weren't great, no free water (they charge you $6 a bottle and even though I didn't touch them I was charged anyway!) And the ironing board wouldn't stay up, so I think that was broken. My colleague got stuck in her bathroom as the sliding door had fallen off the bracket, I had to call for maintenance to get her out (luckily she wasn't travelling alone!) And there was no communication from the hotel to say it had been fixed whilst we were at work for the day. This was a company paid trip but I would say it's not good value for money and I've stayed in better hotels in NYC.Show More

Rooms were clean, nicely furnished and high quality. Water fountain in the lobby is great for filling bottle up. Stayed in a standard room which was plenty big enough for two and the big was big and comfortable. In our room we had coffee making facilities (bring your own tea bags), safe, mini fridge, hair dryer, robe and slippers, vanity kit, shower cap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body moisturiser. There was also a list for additional amenities. The room was nicely dark at night due to the tinted windows (less ideal in the day as the room was always quite dark, good lighting in bathroom though). Definitely pack ear plugs as we were at the end of the corridor and could still hear the lifts squeaking. There is a really lovely rooftop bar with great cocktails and views of the Empire State Building. Staff were generally friendly and helpful, one member of staff very kindly comped some drinks for us as we were celebrating a big birthday. There is a gym in the basement but didn’t check it out. It’s a convenient midtown option and close to a subway. My beef is that I asked for a room away from the elevator and the desk put me next to the elevator. I should’ve gone down and asked for another room but I was tired from traveling. I also should’ve asked for a higher floor because I had no view. And speaking of elevators, they are so slow. It didn’t help that the hotel was packed for the holidays. The hotel is in the middle of 38th street which is nice because you don’t have the noise of the avenues. I was amazed at how quiet my room was, and it was only on the eighth floor. The room is small and might be tight for two people. But Manhattan is extremely expensive so I think it’s a good value. I also wish they had a real dresser as opposed to floppy baskets in the closet. The bathroom is nice with pleasant toiletries. The hotel and rooms are clean. The restaurant is so so. There is a rooftop bar which has a beautiful view. I went up to look but didn’t have a drink.Show More

Hopefully this helps you decide: THE GOOD - Free lemon water & coffee in lobby - Kind, friendly desk and bellman staff - $95 USD private car service to airport is worth it! Efficient and comfortable. - Decent lobby Elevators (not particularly fast but reliable) - Daily room service - Central location to touristy things (under 15 mins walking to Times Square, Madison Square, Bryant Park, Grand Central Station, Empire State Building etc) - Closet offers cloth drawers, a safe, several hangers -King room has desk, complimentary umbrella for use, great lighting options, mini fridge - Upper floor has no street noise, blackout curtains work wonderfully - Free bag hold in lobby on your check out day - Room air conditioning works amazingly well but quite noisy to sleep through THE QUESTIONABLE… - The bathroom uses a sliding barn door and has a massive glass window that looks through to the bedroom (with slat blinds). This means bathroom noises and smells seep out to the main room, and there isn’t total privacy for the person in the bathroom. -Shower has medium-low pressure, so takes forever to rinse shampoo out of long hair -Shower products are in communal pump bottles which feel subpar for the Grayson price point - Room offers two small plastic water bottles in the room for a charge of $6 USD each…yikes. -Ceiling is exposed raw concrete which looks dirty. A design choice potentially great for a trendy lounge but not what you want to see in a room that cycles strangers through to sleep on the same beds -Cloth drawers in the closet feel dodgy as they cannot be wiped down to clean and might harbour smells or pests. -King room feels tight, you will remember that you’re in Manhattan. There is no extra “space” to the room outside of walking around the bed, and even that is limited.Show More
