In the past two years I’ve stayed at 20+ IHG properties across 20+ countries. InterContinental Pattaya, Bangkok, Hanoi, and Wellington are easy 100/100s for me. InterContinental Adelaide, sadly, was a 10/100. The location is 100/100—right by the river and close to everything—but the rest didn’t meet the brand I know and love.
I paid ~AUD 800 for three nights. Even with an “upgrade,” my room felt like a standard Holiday Inn rooms. The moment I got in my room, my happiness died!
Service is the bigger gap. What I love about InterContinental—and why I keep coming back—is the way the teams make me feel valued and recognized. At other ICs I genuinely feel like a priority guest; here, everyone seemed busy and interactions were rushed and transactional.
Constructive, forward-looking suggestions: Re-train front-of-house on warm, proactive service and consistent elite recognition (clear welcome). Honestly, I’d encourage the operations leaders and team members to visit the InterContinentals in Pattaya, Bangkok, Hanoi, or Wellington to benchmark what great looks like—those hotels set the standard that guests associate with the brand.
I want this property to succeed; I choose IHG because it usually delivers reliability and a little ceremony that makes travel special. None of that happened here. Until fundamentals improve, I can’t recommend InterContinental Adelaide. Overall: 10/100 experience, 100/100 location. If meaningful upgrades and service improvements are made, I’ll gladly return and update this review.Show More
