The customer service desks were slammed with long lines. When we got in line there were about 5 or 6 stations open checking guests in. We stood in line about 25 mins and when it was almost our turn...literally half the staff all went on a break at the same time leaving only 2 staff left to check guests in. Then another staff member left leaving only 1 and she did not look happy at all. Finally after about 10 mins the staff started to come back. We were finally checked in after waiting well over half an hour to check in. The young man who checked us in was very sweet, seemed genuinely happy that we were there and that it was going to be our first visit to Epic. We originally booked a standard room but non were available when we checked in so we were surpsingly upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite that overlooked the front entrance. The huge windows were very nice. I enjoyed watching the sunrise every morning thru them.
Our room was nice and spacious, clean and had lots of "extras" like a coffee machine, coffee, paper cups, paper plates, paper bowls, plastic cutlery, condiments. Plenty of towels, soap and shampoo, hand soap. Extra pillow and blanket in the closet, iron, ironing board, safe, luggage rack, stools, microwave, large mini fridge. Charging stations near the beds. Comfortable beds. You are given the option of maid service daily or upon request. We like fresh towels daily so I opted for daily. The housekeeping team did an amazing job keeping us with fresh towels, they also made our beds daily, emptied trash bins and texted me throughout our stay asking if we needed anything. We left a little cash and thank you note when we checked out.
The resort is very big, nicely themed and has a very nice gift shop on-site along with Starbucks (long lines every morning for hours), and a food court. Nice selection of foods, definitely overpriced. I got the yogurt parfait every morning for breakfast it was so good and kept me full till lunch. Plenty of seating but it does fill up in the mornings between 7am and 9am. One thing about the food court that really upset me was they do not take "Universal Pay" from the Universal App. No signs posted anywhere and I dont remember seeing it on the app. We had two huge trays full of hot food to carry back to our room for dinner and all I brought with me to pay was my phone. Thats when I found out they do not accept it. I had to abandon all that food and go back up to my room to get my credit card. By the time we got the food back to our room it was cold. You can order pizza delivered to your room, be warned even tho it says its 8 slices its very small and tastes like a microwave pizza. Wouldn't recommend. The food court area is showing its age a bit. The booth seats are ripped up and uncomfortable to sit on with shorts.
A few "cons" Id like to note: walls are paper thin, we heard sounds, toilets flushing, people sneezing, doors slamming, pipes creaking, and many other noises 24/7. This place will not offer a quiet night's sleep. Highly recommend bringing a sound machine or sleeping with ear plugs. The water in the shower was lukewarm when pushed to the highest heat setting. We never had a hot shower the entire time we were there. The shower curtain was ripped all along the top. Toilet didnt flush very well, you had to flush it several times to get "it all" to go away. The blankets were more like bed sized towels. There was no where to put anything in the bathroom. No shelving and only 1 two prong towel hook on the back of the door. I had to set my clean clothes on the back of the toilet while I showered. After 4 people showered we had wet towels and washcloths slung all over the room because there was no where to hang them in the bathroom. There are however tons of hooks underneath the TV areas, not sure what their purpose was but we used them for towels.
Bus/shuttle service to and from the parks was excellent and very convenient! The mornings were a tad hectic with everyone wanting to get to the parks early. But we found the lines to move quickly as the busses were coming in back to back. There was staff out there directing you where to stand depending on where you were going for the day, we felt it was very well organized and a fairly fast experience. Bus drivers were always very friendly.
Overall we felt this was a nice place for the price. If you aren't into bells and whistles ,and just want a clean comfortable place to sleep during your stay while keeping on a budget I do think this would be a great choice.
Also its located across the street from an IHop restaurant and Walgreens, you can walk there but its a decent little walk crossing a major road. I did it with my 18 yr old son around 11pm and we had no issues. We loaded up with drinks and snacks to keep in the room and it was very nice to come back to that each day and not have to pay ridiculous hotel prices for a Gatorade and bag of chips.
Check out was very easy, just sent a text to housekeeping letting them know we left the room. We used Super Star Shuttle service for airport transfers each way, picked up and dropped off right in front of the hotel. Was very nice, well organized and comfortable.
Lastly wanted to note we did not see or use the pool while there so can not comment on that area.Show More
