A gentleman named Lu was working the desk, and he was very nice and friendly. I wish we had seen him again, as our experience took a sharp turn once we got to the room. Unbelievably hot and stuffy doesn’t even begin to describe our top-floor corner room. So, we call the desk, and maintenance comes up. According to the technician, the AC hadn’t been set to “occupied,” but assured us he had fixed it and the room would cool down. He left, and we naively believed it would get better. At this point, we started a song and dance of trying to get the air to *stay* on, because it would cool to around 69 degrees (Fahrenheit) and then turn off. We were pretty tired from the travel, so we did our best to ignore it. I awoke in a sweat around midnight, as the AC had cut off (due to no movement activity detected in the room, a cost-cutting measure). I went to the desk to ask for help, and they offered to send maintenance back up. The man came up and explained that, yes, the AC was intentionally set to not cool below 69.5 Fahrenheit, and was set to not constantly blow, even on a fan setting. They managed to scrounge up a small desk fan, and offered their condolences. The technician even told us we weren’t the first people to complain. Keep in mind, we paid $500+ for two nights during this early August stay. Being a savvy traveler, I knew there was probably a way to bypass the security on the thermostat to get a cooler temp. I looked at the product manual, tried the suggested steps, and was met with a password, another level of security meant to keep me from being comfortable in my room, and to save this multi-million grossing hotel a few bucks. Frustrated and sweaty, I went back to sleep. The next morning I called the desk, asking only about housekeeping practices. I did not make further complaints about the heat, but I wanted to know if housekeeping was daily (some properties are every other day), and if we could get a couple more bottles of water. The woman on the phone called me a man, then curtly informed me housekeeping was daily, but they *don’t* “just give more water for free,” which was astounding to me. I have stayed in hotels around the country and never have been denied a couple bottles of water, especially this cheap, store-brand bottle we got. We had loud neighbors beside us the whole time, and the worst of it all? The hotel’s AC in the hallway outside our room was blowing cold, strong air all night long, as if to taunt us with the refreshment we so desperately sought. This was supposed to be a fun trip for my girlfriend’s birthday, and all the time we spent at the hotel (which I assure you, was as little as possible), was miserable. Our tv would even get stuck on certain images, leaving it practically unwatchable (save for one or two channels). I’ve never had a worse experience at a hotel of this caliber, but I’ve had plenty of better ones at cheaper hotels. Avoid this one if you’re coming in the summer; they’d much rather save a few dollars on electricity costs than do anything to be hospitable.show more
