While the room itself was clean, smelled nice, and had a gre...My recent weekend stay at Embassy Suites Chicago – Magnificent Mile was disappointing and not what I expected from a hotel of this caliber. While the room itself was clean, smelled nice, and had a great city view, nearly everything else about the experience fell short.
At check-in, I was surprised with a $200 “insurance hold” and a mandatory $25 daily fee that were never disclosed at the time of booking. I was told the fee included a $25 nightly credit for the hotel bar or restaurant, but since we were in town for a family wedding with all meals provided — and do not drink — this “benefit” was meaningless. When I asked if the charge could be declined, I was told it was not optional, which feels deceptive and unfair.
On top of that, the elevators were under construction — something that was not mentioned anywhere online — leaving only two in service for the entire hotel. With several hundred people staying here at once, this was extremely inconvenient. Several times while attempting to go the lobby level, we had to pass on multiple elevator cars due to them already being full. Wait times were frustratingly long while trying to go upstairs as well, due to there being an incredibly long wait time. When we finally made it to our room, the bathroom light didn’t work and there was no toilet paper provided at all. While maintenance was quick to fix this, For the price we paid, these issues are unacceptable.
Between the undisclosed fees, lack of transparency, and poor maintenance, this hotel failed to meet even basic expectations. I would strongly caution anyone considering this location to double-check what you’re actually being charged for before booking.Show More
