I selected the Royal Sonesta ...From Sept. 26 through Sept. 29, 2025, I visited Chicago with a friend. This was the first time my friend had visited Chicago. We are both seniors and enjoy traveling. I selected the Royal Sonesta based on location, pricing and TripAdvisor's rating. My friend and I were disappointed with our stay at the Royal Sonesta. The hotel did not advise the rooms are not cleaned daily but rather are apparently cleaned only on request! I found this out while waiting to check out (overheard another senior guest asking hotel staff). My main concern with Royal Sonesta was that the hotel had a hold on two of our credit cards -- full amount of three day stay on each card until we checked out! So this hotel thought it was okay to place holds of about $1,400 on EACH CREDIT CARD. When we checked in, I gave them my credit card to secure the room. Later that evening, I asked the Front Desk if we could replace that card (as I wanted to use the first card to shop) with another card. We were told after presenting the second card that it would be used to secure the room. Later that evening, while having dinner, I found out that there was still a hold on the initial card given to Royal Sonesta. When attempting to have the approximately $1,400 removed from one of the credit cards, we were told that the hold remains for "about three days" and that I should contact my credit card organization to have the hold taken off. That was not true! No apology was provided upon checking out, when the holds on BOTH CREDIT CARDS were removed. Typically, I visit Chicago at least once every year. I do not recommend this hotel.Show More

I was in Chicago on a work trip when I stayed at the Royal Sonesta River North, and I was honestly surprised by how consistently good the experience was. Every person I interacted with seemed genuinely interested in helping, and they carried themselves with confidence and professionalism. Nothing felt scripted or forced. One employee in particular, Antwonne, really stood out. He was welcoming right from the start and checked in on me throughout my stay. He had a way of anticipating what I needed before I even asked, which is rare to see. His attitude, attention to detail, and steady professionalism made a big impression. After working in that world for so long, I can say there aren’t many places that truly get hospitality right from top to bottom. This hotel does. I would happily stay here again.Show More

The pool had an incredible view, and the junior spa room was amazing — especially the jet tub, which made the stay feel extra special. The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming. Shaunda was super accommodating and friendly, and she really made our stay feel special. They even surprised us with a bottle of wine when we arrived, which was such a thoughtful touch. The location is excellent, close to everything, and the bar had an amazing selection of mixed drinks. We had an absolute blast and would definitely come back again!
