Do book early, because the last minute bookings are pricey, at least around Thanksgiving. The lobby at the Emily is light and airy and has a great coffee shop. The Fora restaurant there serves great food and the staff were very attentive and kind. Even though I was just waiting for an order, they seated me, brought me a small pitcher of water, and made me feel welcome. The front desk staff were friendly, efficient, and courteous. When I asked for some changes they cheerfully went out of their way to help -- they showed a great deal of kindness throughout my stay. The rooms are minimalist but have everything you need, and have a kind of open charm. I liked that the sink was outside the bathroom. It makes it easy for two people to get dressed or ready for bed. The rooms overlooking the next building could use a layer of sheers inside the curtains, but privacy was not a problem. I liked The Emily very much. It is simple and imaginative, very comfortable, and suffused with kindness.Show More

My main complaint is with housekeeping. This was my second stay at The Emily, and while I appreciate their effort to keep rooms tidy, it feels overbearing. They go beyond typical hotel practices (changing sheets, new towels, etc.) to the point it seems invasive. Both times I’ve stayed, I’ve noticed visible differences in my room after housekeeping, such as items moved from one side of the counter to the other, towels placed under things where they weren’t before, etc. On this trip, a travel container of mine was thrown away. I had an empty travel-size conditioner that had fallen onto the shower floor. Since I was the only one in the room, I left it there, thinking it was fine. When I returned, my travel shampoo was still in the shower but the conditioner was gone. I assume they thought it was trash because it was empty and on the floor, but it was not. It’s frustrating because after already feeling their practices were invasive on my first visit, I now had an item thrown away because of them on my second visit.Show More

There isn't even a chair, really - like there's a crappy little metal chair but it isn't pleasant to sit in. I didn't care for the mattress, although that's a personal preference. The HVAC unit is so loud it woke me up when it turned on in the middle of the night. Start to finish I'm really just not a fan. In fairness, the staff was incredibly pleasant and friendly, the room was very clean, the shower worked, etc. I wouldn't absolutely avoid staying here again, but it would not be my preferenceShow More

Someone left the window open and I didn’t realize this until 3 nights in bc I had the curtain closed. This should never have happened and it’s unnerving that this isn’t being checked in between guests. The room was super loud and now I know why- it’s bc I was listening to a massive rooftop compressor all night long. This place could be nice- but they need to actually start to care about their guests.Show More
