Basic Accommodation with Inconsistent Food Quality
My recent stay at The Regente offered a mixed experience. While the hotel provides a clean and adequate base for a holiday, the food quality was highly inconsistent, and the evening entertainment was notably lacking for younger guests.
Accommodation and Staff
The room was clean and tidy, which is always the most important factor for comfort. I also want to specifically mention the staff on the ninth floor, who were friendly and attentive—they were definitely a highlight of the service.
However, some other members of staff appeared disengaged at times, which did affect the atmosphere.
Dining Experience: A Major Area for Improvement
The food was the most disappointing part of the stay, especially during the first two days.
Breakfast was passable and catered well to English tastes, offering a full English breakfast, cereals, and toast. However, the pancakes and crêpes were consistently poor—they lacked flavor and were rubbery. A simple suggestion to the kitchen: please add more sugar to the batter. A minor but strange note was the lack of ketchup at breakfast, though salad cream and sweet chili sauce were available.
Evening Meals were clearly catered to an older, English clientele (70+). Options included many heavy dishes like steak pies and vegetables, alongside a few Spanish dishes and plenty of fish. Only one meal (chicken and potatoes) was truly passable during our stay.
Desserts were disappointing, often consisting of options like Angel Delight, barely edible chocolate cake, or a single scoop of basic ice cream.
I did not eat lunch at the hotel. Overall, the cooks need serious training, particularly the person responsible for the pancakes.
Entertainment
The evening entertainment was subpar and heavily focused on its older clientele (over 70s). For anyone seeking modern or varied entertainment, you will need to look elsewhere.
Final Thoughts
This hotel is basic but clean. If you are not bothered about evening entertainment and plan to eat most of your meals outside the hotel, it may suffice. However, for a better dining experience, I would recommend choosing an alternative. The other guests were pleasant enough, and the cleanliness of the room was a definite plus. Not worth the money I paid, Jet2 should hang there heads in shame over the price of £1069 for five days in Benidorm at the Medplaya Hotel Regente, says four stars on both official and Jet2.com but its not its a two star at best maybe three because of the cleanliness of the rooms.
