I called a few days before our arrival to arrange for champagne to be in the roo...Would definitely not stay here again. We stayed at the Pendry for my husband's 50th birthday, flying in from Atlanta. I called a few days before our arrival to arrange for champagne to be in the room as a surprise for my husband. The concierge was very friendly, and said that the champagne would be complimentary (I didn't expect that) and they'd include macarons, and that it would delay us accessing our room by about 45 minutes. No problem at all. We got there pretty early, around 11, and so of course didn't expect a room to be ready, though we booked through Capital One Venture X and early check-in was a perk when possible. We figured we'd just drop our bags and do some sightseeing and then come back. We were told at reception that there was actually a room ready for us, so that was surprising to me given what I was told over the phone. Then she back-peddled said actually it would be about an hour and we'd get a text. All good. We headed out to the city. By 3pm we still had not received a text, so we headed back to the hotel to ask. We were finally in our room closer to 4 pm. Again, not a crisis, but annoying. When we arrived in the room- surprise- there was no champagne and no macarons. At this point any surprise was ruined because I had to go downstairs and talk to the concierge. She advised me she told them two hours ago to bring it up. So now I know our room was indeed ready a decent while before we finally followed up after not hearing anything from the hotel. About 15 or 20 minutes later a really nice associate showed up with what I assumed was the champagne and macarons until we pulled it out of the ice bucket. It was actually a $15 bottle of prosecco. If I'd have known that's what this 5 star hotel would be providing, I would have insisted on purchasing a bottle that was a bit more special feeling for this big birthday. So we weren't off to the best start, but we had a laugh about the whole situation and headed to Wrigley Field. This is when things got actually not great at all. Upon return to the hotel our room absolutely reeked of what I can only describe as a ton of stale cigarettes in a small space. I thought people had been in our room smoking. Initially my fear was that the hotel would think we were smoking in our room so I called downstairs and let them know about the stench. The associate was less then friendly, and stated there was an issue with the vents and they were working on it. No apology or anything at all acknowledging how uncomfortable the situation was. The smell felt like it was getting worse. A bit later my husband went downstairs and saw firefighters in the lobby as well. We were both uncomfortable at this point, and I as finding it less and less comfortable to breath in the room. I went downstairs to see if anything could be done. While unapologetic, the associate offered to have a fan brought up to the room and someone to open the window. Yes. Thank you. About 10 minutes later a really nice associate opened our window and set up a fan. The front desk called and said that we would be credited for the night. That was the first time anyone in guest services really seemed to care if we were satisfied or comfortable. The room slowly began to air out, but it was still not a comfortable night's sleep. The next morning the room still smelled, but it wasn't nearly as bad, so we decided to stay the second night-- we were initially considering bailing because of how gross it felt. We spent Saturday out and about and stopped back at the hotel before heading to dinner. There was a new bottle of 'champagne' in the room. That was weird, but then there was a card from my sister wishing my husband a happy birthday. Very sweet. It was still the cheaper prosecco, but again these things aren't that important and it made us laugh again-- until I talked to my sister yesterday about how ridiculous our stay was and she let me know she was charged $118 for it. I know that there are 200-400% mark ups at hotels on alcohol, but a roughly 800% is pretty insane- even if that included a service fee. I'm infuriated on her behalf. Anyway, this review is too long I know, but when we checked out the front desk didn't seem to know about the credit. She then went into an office and came out and said that we were supposed to get one, but she had to do it through Capital One because we booked through their portal. That's fine. She said I would get an email that afternoon (Saturday) confirming the process was started. It's Monday and I haven't heard a thing from the hotel. The location can't be beat. The restaurants were ok. The rooftop bar was not as advertised, but still pretty. I would not recommend this hotel if you're celebrating something special. While we definitely hope to visit Chicago again, we won't be staying at the Pendry if we do.Show More

Post-COVID hospitality has largely devolved into perfunctory check-ins delivered with all the enthusiasm of a DMV clerk. From the moment you arrive at the Pendry you are cared for – the team here radiates genuine pride in their property, and rightfully so. Check-In & First Impressions Check-in was swift and warm – adroit expertise focused on getting me out of the lobby and into my room efficiently while ensuring I had everything I needed: gym location, restaurant options, elevator access. They shared information a guest actually cares about, proving that warmth doesn't require mindless small talk about my travels. The Room My sixth-floor room sat just off the elevators, away from the street – quiet as a crypt. I never heard footsteps in the hall despite traveling with a group notorious for late-night hijinks. The room itself was spacious and intelligently laid out. No hunting for cryptic switches on esoteric light fixtures. Pleasantly fresh with a neutral scent. The bathroom was luxurious: excellent products, generous counter space, and a shower with water pressure that transported me back to 1991. IYKYK. The bed was exceptionally comfortable – they nailed that elusive sweet spot of plush-firm perfection. Perfect pillows and a sumptuous comforter that kept me at exactly the right temperature. According to my SleepCycle app, I logged more deep sleep here than anywhere else I've stayed all year. Others in my group noted some street noise – but to be fair, they're from the sticks of Minnesota, where a moth beating its wings on the porch light is considered a ruckus. Service The staff here gets it. They're warm, competent, and seem genuinely pleased to help rather than put-upon. They even nailed my difficult last name on the first try, which almost never happens. When I requested an iron and ironing board, it materialized promptly – no theatrical sighs, no twenty-minute wait. Location You're on the Magnificent Mile, which means easy access to shops, restaurants, and whatever Chicago's offering up seasonally. It's genuinely convenient without feeling touristy. Value Is it expensive? Yes. But you're not just buying a bed in a nice building – you're paying for the peace of mind that comes from competent execution at every level. If you can't tell the difference between "premium" and "genuinely excellent," this will feel overpriced. But if you appreciate what separates good hotels from great ones, the Pendry delivers in ways that justify the rate.Show More

To get this story right I'll have to go back, before we arrived. We scheduled this hotel as the grand finale to a rather intense Chicago stay. We wanted our last days, for an anniversary vacation, to be in a beautiful hotel, located in a remarkable area. On paper, the Pendry hotel checks all the boxes, but the truth is very far from it. First of all, the hotel has not answered any of the numerous emails we sent prior to our arrival. Only after searching TripAdvisor for a direct manager email we got a response. Upon arrival we were told that our room was upgraded and got a lovely room - high floor, living room view... but unfortunately, the room had poor maintenance. For example, the bedroom AC was extremely loud, the outlets near the bed didn't function properly, the heated floor in the bathroom didn't work at all, the safe was barely functioning etc. But hey, this is a fancy hotel, of course they should be able to handle such malfunctions... they have their own unique way of dealing with this, they send a mechanic, don't let you know, and after a day say that "there was nothing to tell"... eh? They also have a new way of catering to requests, such as "may i have an extra blanket?" by ignoring and doing nothing for hours, util you've had enough and had to yell at the manager. Maybe I am weird this way, but I can't stand the "we don't give a damn about you, just pay" attitude. I must note Muriel and Natalie from the reception, who made this stay awful by ignoring and misleading us, causing me to waste valuable time arguing and constant following up on them. The doormen and bellboys were a delight, that's really the only good thing I can tell about the staff. About the location, this hotel has almost no insolation, and it is located on two highways so you get constant noise throughout the day and night, pretty much like sleeping outside. My wife couldn't sleep for more than a couple of hours a night, before being woken up by a motorcycle, siren and so on. While the view is nice, there are condo buildings all around you, so you can't really keep the shades open as it is extremely not private. Moreover, this is an old building, and the elevators show this. When planning to go outside, plan ahead 5-10 minutes waiting for an elevator. Breakfast and room service is decent, as the the adjoint restaurant is decent, though I found breakfast a bit too fatty and lacks variety. In conclusion, there are better options out there for this kind of price rate. Can't recommend this hotel.Show More

The hotel shouldn't contract this company anymore. They proceeded to gaslight me and deny it, yet I drive a tesla, it recorded the Valet running over one of the poll insert post holders for a barrier poll. It was raised up about 2 inches just enough to rub and scratch my wheel. All caught on camera, the company has still denied they did it. It's clear they did as when I walked around my car I saw it, and the paint on the wheel was still flaking. The valet guy immediately wiped it before I could snap a pic showing just how fresh it was, he then proceeded to tell me that was there already(like he some how knew my car better than me). He then walked over to the valet spot and was doing something as I moved my car since he parked it half way into the street(Clearly to make me want to leave fast, main reason I didn't). After I walked back to the valet booth, he then showed me a card showing they had recorded the damage. Keep in mind, I never saw this card till now, and the messed up part is when I saw it, it really freaked me out since the card had damage written all over that side and I honestly did not check the whole side so I went back and there was no other damage. So clearly the card was filled out wrong. We did a report and he said the manager will contact me. No contact from manager. I told him best way to contact me is through email. I never have been contacted till their insurance company emailed me saying my claim was denied and that was that. I never filed a claim or asked for anything as the damage will be covered under my lease agreement, so it really blows my mind how they handled this, as I even told the guy numerous times it's ok if he did it or something as it's a lease and its not bad damage. So it just goes to show how bad this valet company is, and how incompetent they are. Imagine if they smashed my car into another car and just wrote on that card saying the damage was already there, and that's that. Cause clearly it can't be added or filled out incorrectly to them lol... I mean, it's black pen, no one else carries that around with them...Show More
