This is a modern oasis on W 6th Street in Austin that was historically, until about 10 years ago the quieter end of downtowns "Dirty" 6th street. But now there are numerous loud bars in the area and ...This is a modern oasis on W 6th Street in Austin that was historically, until about 10 years ago the quieter end of downtowns "Dirty" 6th street. But now there are numerous loud bars in the area and The Hilton Canopy is plopped right in the middle of it all. The property is visually and serenly appealing, alas, leading one to feel they're entering a peaceful sanctuary. The furnishings are what I would describe as Danish contemporary and on the minimalistice but aeshetically appealing side. We checked into our room a 5:00 and an hour later our windows started shaking from the bass of heavy electronic music seemingly right underneath us. If you plan to party hard and fall into bed after 2:00 a.m. then the loud music won't bother you a bit. Little did I realize when we got into the room the white noise machine and earplugs by the bed were not Spa touches but necessary for a decent nights sleep. We had a nice, 2 queen, corner unit with a balcony (sounds nice right?) and gave it up for a room with no balcony and faced a garage but thankfully much quieter. I feel lucky the place wasn't fully booked and they were able to change our rooms for us, otherwise we most definitly would have checked out. Once settle into our new room I took a few minutes to get on TripAdvisor and started reading other reviews and here is what I experienced that others did too. No soundproofing to keep out the loud musice from the bars (a few open air) outside. The beds were a little lumpy but otherwise very comforatble. Front desk was helpful. There is a restaurant we didn't partake of. Lovely bar that closes at 10:00 during the week (Seriously?) Valet parking is 50.00. Didn't use the pool but have read in previous reviews it is very small. I would stay here again but now know to request a quiter area of the hotel. It's in close proximity to a couple of nice places to eat. We had breakfast and good coffee right across the steet at one of my favorite places, Walton's Fancy and Staple. Whole Foods, REI, Book People and several other stores are west of the property by a few blocks. Lesson learned: Before booking a hotel I'm not familiar with, Check TripAdvisor!!Show More
