8/10 Solid Value in the heart of San DiegoThis ultra-modern Columbia District hotel is a solid choice in heart of San Diego. It's near Little Italy, the harbor, etc.
Check-in was fast. Our room type was not ready, but we received what I believed was a slight upgrade to a corner room with two queens in the 001 series. The room was tastefully furnished and comfortable. Sleep quality was excellent, the room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The HVAC worked well. The bathroom was spacious and clean, but amenities were sparse, and we had to ask for more soap after we used up our tiny bar. The hotel provides reusable aluminum water bottles, which you can fill at a station near the elevators. The mini refrigerator worked well. There is a Keurig if you want coffee.
The hotel charges a resort fee, but we got value back. We enjoyed a drink at the upstairs bar, although the outdoor area was being used for a private party. Most days we took breakfast in the hotel. The standard breakfast, eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat, and toast was very well executed, and a cut above most Hilton properties. I also enjoyed the chilaquiles, omelette and avocado toast during my stay.
Overall, I would gladly return to this hotel, but there are a few issues that preclude a five star review.
One is a design flaw - the sliding closet door doubles as a bathroom door - this seems intelligent but becomes a pain if you are in the closet as your partner exits the bathroom. The motorized curtains did not close properly and the hotel maintenance was not able to repair them when we called. Parking is $65 a night - we rented at a car from SIXT at the Intercontinental and noted that hotel charged $50. There are other cheaper parking options close by. The free lobby coffee is only available from 6-7 am.
If none of these nits bother you, I can highly recommend this hotel. It's beautiful, comfortable, central, and reasonably priced.
P.S. Try Vinarius on India Street for dinner - excellent Italian food and very close, and Lofty for coffee/breakfast.

7/10 Pleasant Stay, But be Aware of Reservation PracticeLocation, location, location! Blocks away from Little Italy and the waterfront with loads of restaurants and attractions. Restaurant and bar (rooftop bar wasn’t open when we were there) and the best gym in a hotel. Our room was very quiet even though we were next to the elevator. Honestly, except for our room assignment, it was a great stay.

6/10 Sadly, some of the worst beds I’ve slept at…The pros about this hotel: great location!!! Just a couple of blocks away from little Italy (brunching, dinning, and drinking) and yet, a quiet and safe area. The Carte Hotel is also near the tram station, which will give you access to the whole of the city and beyond, and within walking distance from Harbord Dr. (great strolling area, home to Midway Museum, and departing point for several yacht tours). The look and feeling of the property are up to date, making it comfortable, appealing, and with a view. Even when nestled within numerous tall buildings, Carte’s floor to ceiling windows allow for lots of light to pour in and interesting city views; corner rooms might even give a glimpse of the ocean.
The cons, now: Unfortunately, the beds are some of the worst I’ve slept at, they were squeaky, and mattresses and pillows way uncomfortable. Staff fell short from being proactive –though not rude in the least; front desk staffers will keep their gaze down on the computer finishing their business before taking care of queuing guests, and housekeeping seems will only replenish toilet paper and bath amenities upon request. There is no self-parking, and although valet is courteous and effective, sometimes self-parking goes better with your needs (and expenses).

10/10 Convenient for downtown stay.A modern hotel that's genuinely fantastic, deserving a positive review. It elegantly blends contemporary designs with sheer coziness that gives guests an unmatched hospitality experience. The rooms are beautifully furnished, enhancing the hotel's modern ambiance. Overall service is impressive, and peaks of professionalism at times. The front desk staff can use a little push for some considerate actions and a couple of new ladies' friendliness (seems like they do not enjoy their jobs), but all around the other are fantastic. The well-maintained environment adds to the joy of staying here (stayed 3 times already) and still a go-to for downtown stay even though the view is now blocked by another tall building. The restaurants serves ok options for being downtown.

8/10 Mainly positive, with great location.Great location with very clean rooms and facilities as expected. Breakfast was good but expensive. All the staff were very nice except the two ladies on reception when it came to checking out. It's a shame because it negates all the hard work of the other staff.

2/10 Not a good experienceThis place is a disappointment. Arrived at hotel after a long day of travel. We find out that the power is gonna go off in the hotel between 10 PM and 3 AM. The hotel didn’t have enough courtesy to notify the guests in advance in case they wanted to change their reservation to another hotel that would have power laid into the evening. If that wasn’t disheartening enough, I get to my hotel room after lugging my luggage up seven flights and the key card doesn’t work. Still waiting on an engineer to come and open the door for me.

10/10 Attractive, comfortable hotel in downtown San DiegoThis is an attractive, comfortable hotel in downtown San Diego. We recently stay here for several days. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Housekeeping was excellent, the best we've had in 5 years. There is a new bar and restaurant in the lobby. They only have valet parking (which is crazy expensive at $65/night) but the valets work hard and quick to bring up your car. There are not many other parking garages nearby.

10/10 Carte hotel was chic as much as it was charming. A great place to stay in downtown San Diego!!The carte hotel was chic as much as it was safe, clean and a wonderful place to stay in downtown San Diego. The staff was always helpful with a smile and we found easy parking (paid) down the block. We were in easy walking distance to the harbor and little Italy. Our room had everything we needed with a great view if the city. The food at both restaurants and staff were excellent. We only wish we had more time to explore San Diego. So many great neighborhoods and dining options. The hotel was a gem!!

9/10 BEST HOTEL FOR SAN DIEGO COMIC-CONThis is possibly the best hotel you could stay in if you are planning to attend the San Diego Comic-Con and could not afford the unbelievably expensive hotels around the Convention Center. Still is a bit pricey; however, the amenities that come with this place will make this the “best value” hotel to make your Comic Con experience memorable and stress-free. First , it is a mere three miles from the airport and is near the Free Shuttle Bus stop to SDCC. The hotel has a nice modern look to it, with a restaurant at the lobby where you can have a heavy breakfast before heading to the Con. Theirbreakfast menu was delish, I didn’t even venture out anymore on any of the nearby brekkie joints. Just outside the elevator to my floor is a wall mounted ice and water dispenser . The hotel also replenished my water bottles (or should I say, Cartons) daily so I always had fresh water in my room. The King Bed City View room I had was chic and sizable . Room temp was nice and cold to offset the city’s summer heat, and I’m glad the staff gave me extra comforters and pillows. The walls were not entirely noise proof and I could still hear some muffled conversations but thank goodness not to the point of vulgar disruption. The room Tv has several channels but I was left wishing for a more extensive cable lineup. Wi-Fi signal was pretty good. Water pressure was decent. Thank goodness they also have a Keurig CoffeeMaker; however, the refrigerator was not cold enough. Bed is clean, very comfortable, no dust, no strange smells and no scratch marks. Staff and Valet have been courteous, amiable and responsive. The neighborhood also had a nearby Rite Aid Pharmacy, a Starbucks, a 7-11 store, a nice Mediterranean kebab place for any late to-go meal. The Little Italy Trolley Station that takes you to the rest of San Diego or Bus Depots uptown for that Los Angeles day trip is also a 7-minute walk from the hotel.

10/10 Very welcoming and immaculate hotel in a great locationWe stayed a a night with our family dog. Our dog was so welcome and that made us happy. Of course the staff welcomed us, the two-legged as well. The room was immaculate. The pool area was very nice, cozy and well shaded due to its location. We walked towards the ocean easily and to Little Italy area for wonderful restaurant experiences, wine bar and bakery. Overnight street parking was possible (free after 6:00 pm and Sunday). Stayed for only one night but thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the hospitality.. Every dollar spent was so worthwhile.
