I have been staying at this beautiful property very frequently due to my work. So much that I have got to know pretty much the entire front staff. I have over 20 years hospitality experience including...I have been staying at this beautiful property very frequently due to my work. So much that I have got to know pretty much the entire front staff. I have over 20 years hospitality experience including running a similar luxury boutique hotel for 14 years. The Westgate in San Diego reminds for those years. I recognize the service elements trained in the staff here as well. Each and every one of them reflects it. They are always engaging, polite and helpful and anticipating needs giving solutions for problems if arises any. Any guests who claims that any of the staff members have not been up to these standards should probably examine themselves before they blame others. I can strongly state it as I am at the hotel a lot and always observe as I am from similar background and cannot help but critique everywhere I go. The recently refurbished rooftop pooldeck with high end furniture is one of my favorite spot to hang out especially the lap pool (as I have been a pro swimmer) it is hard to find at hotels. The 3 story gym with spa, sauna and steamroom is also one of the best that hotel guests have the privilege to use. On weekends there is a very nice high tea frequently accompanied with beautiful harp play. I am aways looking forward to return and see all the familiar faces, I actually make a point at my job to stay here! Thank you All to always make me feel home! See you soon!Show More

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, it is good but could be much better in my opinion. We had an odd and very long wait at check in, Jason, seemed to take forever whilst the other reception agent ...I have mixed feelings about this hotel, it is good but could be much better in my opinion. We had an odd and very long wait at check in, Jason, seemed to take forever whilst the other reception agent was more efficient. Our room was spacious and well appointed, the bed and pillows were comfortable enabling good sleep. We had a slight issue with the shower, there were 3 controls, unclear what each did (and we’ve stayed in many hotels with many different showers). It also leaked badly onto the floor as the screen was inadequate. We had been led to believe that there was a cocktail bar but there really isn’t. The lobby has a strange ambience which could be better used. If you sit in this beautiful area, it takes forever to get served by staff that come from the restaurant. The first night there was live music in the lobby and several people enjoying this but the second night there was nobody there to listen to the band which was quite sad. We thought that much more could be done to keep the hotel guests there in the evenings. It was also off putting to be advised by front desk staff, when we asked for directions to restaurants etc, to avoid certain streets due to the number of “transients” there. We chose to have breakfast on our last day and this was very good. All in all, a good but not great stay.Show More

I've had better customer service at a Motel 6. First I paid for an early check in for 11:00 am. When I arrived I was told I could not check in until 1:30 p.m. I waited until 12:00 and then informed...I've had better customer service at a Motel 6. First I paid for an early check in for 11:00 am. When I arrived I was told I could not check in until 1:30 p.m. I waited until 12:00 and then informed them that I paid to check in early. Suddenly a room appeared. I also paid to have a bottle of champagne delivered which never arrived. The following morning. I asked for a room service menu, which also never arrived. I decided I would just go down to breakfast. When I approached the front desk to ask where the restaurant is, a front desk clerk named Marianna snapped at me saying "I'm with a guest!" I found the restaurant on my own. (Which was good.) When I went to check out, the same front desk attempted a lame apology and ended up snapping at me again that she was with a guest! I reminded her that I'm a guest too. To add insult to injury, when I wrote the above review I got a call from Sarah, a customer satisfaction manager. She offered me free nights at the hotel if I would take the bad review down. I agreed. When my next trip to San Diego was being planned, I wrote to Sarah and called her to request my credits at the hotel. She NEVER responded. I ended up staying at the Marriot in Mission Bay. This is a terrible hotel and my experience could only have been worse if they set me on fire.Show More

We have stayed at the Westgate sev...The Westgate is an oasis of calm and grace in the middle of what can be a surprisingly dirty and trashy downtown of what is otherwise a beautiful city in San Diego. We have stayed at the Westgate several times for it's beauty, comfort, quiet, amazing fitness center, and location; would not stay anywhere else (other than oceanfront in MB & PB which we do also). We appreciate the Westgate's spacious and very clean suites, the terrific views, the clean and bright bathroom with great shower water pressure, the soft towels, the comfortable bed & linens, and especially the amazing wonderful gym to which hotel guests have access. We started staying here for easy access to downtown's nightlife and waterfront, but that's become less appealing over the eyars. The Gaslamp and downtown districts are dirty, trashy, loud, and crime-suggestive (see all the filth & bars & security guards in stores, esp the locked cases of chocolate candy in the drugstores!). The only improvement we would suggest is that the Westgate improve the quality of the breakfast and location (e.g. the 2nd floor rooftop area) so one is more interested in paying the high price for it.Show More
