I was staying for a week as a solo traveler visiting to give a poetry reading and teach, and it was my first time in San ...Staying at the Beacon Grand was the dreamiest from check in to saying goodbye. I was staying for a week as a solo traveler visiting to give a poetry reading and teach, and it was my first time in San Francisco. When I arrived, I was a little lost and totally exhausted...but was so pleased to step into a place with absolutely beautiful decor and chic vibe. As a newbie in the city, I didn't know what to expect...but felt immediately welcomed and comfortable. Veronica checked me in and was simply a joy to be around. She was so kind, friendly, and caring, which was a perfect way to start my new adventure. I mean, how many times do you get off a plane after a four hour flight and feel rejuvenated by the hotel check in process?? Her kindness and natural joy was contagious and I forgot that I was tired. Following the check in, I then left off my baggage with the valet while I waited for my room to be ready for me ( I arrived well before check in time). Pedro helped me with my luggage and answered all of my questions and indulged my chattiness with his good humor and reciprocity. When I was able to enter the Grand Guestroom, I was so excited to see that the room is just as gorgeous as the pictures online. I had a great view, the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and all of my outfits fit into the mini closet and drawers. As someone who overpacks, I was happy to get all of my belongings in order and out of sight. On the first night I went to Starlite and ordered some food which was delicious and a few non-alcoholic cocktails. This is always appreciated since I am sober but still enjoy the nightlife at bars with friends or simply to people watch. During the week I had to travel within the city and to Oakland for my poetry and everyone helped me figure out how to move around. I got to know Angelo as well who also is one of the friendliest people I have met on my travels. Just chatting with him made my day. I can say with 100% assurance from my experience that staying at the Beacon Grand is the best I have encountered in all of my travels. One, because GORGEOUS. Two, and most importantly, because of the professionals who work there and help me, and all the other wide-eyed, confused tourists, with friendliness and detail. The whole week was perfect. And as a solo traveler, being able to go down and ask questions/chat/and share a few stories with Veronica, made me feel at home. Full stop. I already miss everyone...and can't wait to go back. A beautiful historic hotel with a modern twist. Alma on reception gave us a warm and very generous welcome, offering us a complimentary room upgrade and vouchers for drinks at the beautiful lobby bar. Our room was beautiful, luxurious,stylish and had a fantastic view over Union Square but was surprisingly quiet. Beds were the best I've ever slept in, room was immaculate and had everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the food was exceptionally good and we enjoyed lovely cocktails and our son a delicious milkshake. The waiter whose name I've forgotten ( so sorry) was warm and friendly and very attentive. We really enjoyed the experience. Location wise, it's super central and the Powell line cable car goes right past the hotel. Walking distance to Chinatown, Union Square etc.. We went up to have a look at the Starlight bar on the 21st floor and it had magnificent panoramic views over the city. Being Halloween there was a brilliant party atmosphere in there and it again was beautifully decorated. We were unable to stay for a drink as there was a party on and we had our 11 year old with us but it will give us a reason to return 😊 The only downside was that one night of course was not long enough. The concierge staff and doorman Angelo out front were warm, friendly and kind and nothing was too much trouble. I do hope that the Management acknowledge the exceptional staff they have at the Beacon Grand and customer service they deliver. They really made our stay perfect in every way and we would of course, love to visit again one day.Show More

It's rare for me to book us a hotel room when we could easily stay with local friends, but a close friend reminded me that we used to go have cocktails here in the 80s when it was The Drake and we loved it, so I splurged for a room to celebrate our 9th anniversary. Alma at the front desk was very kind and found us a room on the 15th floor with a great view. The bed was comfortable and the room was really nicely appointed with all that we needed. The bellman was kind enough to give us a little history on the hotel, which I particularly enjoyed. But the cherry on top was the staff at the Starlight Lounge. We made a reservation for a table just to enjoy a glass of wine and from the moment we arrived, the uber-fabulous hostess made every effort to secure us a table next to the window overlooking Union Square where we could watch the ice skaters and enjoy the holiday lights. They brought us drinks and then surprised us with a special desert lit with candles. It was just so kind of them to make a big deal out of our anniversary since only 10 years ago it wasn't possible for us to marry. I was so impressed with every aspect of our stay at the Beacon Grand and I would definitely come back next time we're in San Francisco. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the whole staff at your wonderful hotel for reminding us of the genuine kindness that still exists in America despite the news. You really made our anniversary special.Show More
